Childbirth and Breastfeeding Education Classes:
Private childbirth preparation and breastfeeding education and instruction is offered in the privacy and intimacy of your own home, or at Cordelia's home office in Los Angeles. Free group classes for Medi-Cal eligible are also offered. Class content includes labor-coping strategies (i.e., breathing, relaxation, etc.) and support techniques for birth partners (i.e., massage, positions to facilitate a more comfortable labor, etc.), and information on choices for childbirth. The classes also explore spiritual and emotional aspects of pregnancy and childbirth and help the woman develop trust in birth and confidence in her abilities.
Birth Options Consultation and Birth Support Provider Referrals:
Thinking about homebirth, but your partner is worried about whether it's safe? Trying to decide whether to have a midwife or doctor? Do you want to find a doctor supportive of natural childbirth? Are you looking for a hospital where you can have a waterbirth? Then a Birth Options Consultation is what you need! Consultations are available in e-mail, by phone, or in person, to help you make informed decisions about your birth. Also, referrals to doulas, doctors, and midwives are available.
Training for Childbirth Assistants and Breastfeeding Peer Counselors:

Laura is an ethnographic filmmaker and photographer with a Master's Degree in Visual Anthropology from U.S.C., and formerly, she worked as a midwife's assistant, doula and childbirth educator, and is a homebirth mother. Laura's newest film, "Blessing the Way: A Ritual Transformation and Healing Through Pregnancy of Birth" explores the role of ritual ceremony in preparation for birth (as an alternative to the American baby shower) as a means to nurture the expectant woman, and facilitate her personal growth and healing during the childbearing cycle. Ana Paula Markel is the mother of 4 children. Her first two children were born by cesarean, after a lot of research and support Ana was able to achieve 2 VBAC's (vaginal birth after cesarean). This experience led Ana to become a Childbirth Educator and doula. The idea of this class is to empower couples to enjoy the process of pregnancy and childbirth. Pregnant Women and their partners are going to be encouraged to explore their own ideas and methods to achieve a satisfying Birth Experience. There is no right or wrong in this class.
We will explore many pain coping techniques, discuss when or how medications could be helpful, explore the bodies amazing abilities, learn about the fabulous "hormone cocktail" our bodies supply us with during this special time. Breastfeeding and Baby Care also included.
